We had a note on Monday on the Fayetteville Force U14 girls’ team that won a tournament down in Charleston. We’ve gotten a few more details since then, courtesy of the team’s coach, Aaron Wood.
Here is the article he submitted:
This weekend my travel team, the Fayetteville Force U14 girls, went to South Carolina to participate in the James Island Cup, a tournament that featured 94 teams that covered many youth age groups.
About half the team is comprised of local players from Hope Mills, Grey’s Creek and Stoney Point. They won first place, bringing the James Island Cup home to the Fayetteville Soccer Club.
In the semi-finals they won 2-0, with both goals coming from team captain, Courtney Deblois, and assists from Maddie Britt, and Karly Gustafson. The championship game against the U15 host James Island team was won 3-0, with two goals by Deblois and another by Britt.
The team totaled 10 goals in 4 games, and allowed only two goals against them. The team members are: Helene Beltran, Britt, Katie Caylor, Maggie Fleishman, Gustafson, Grace Lee, Madison Manship, Kayla Mundell, Ray Orello, Alex Sorrells, Alexis Zeller-Meyer, and captains Sam Baker and Deblois.
The team is coached by Aaron Wood, who also coaches four recreation teams: the Hope Mills Railhawks, for Hope Mills Parks and Rec. The 9-10 year old Railhawks are working on their third undefeated season in a row.
The Fayetteville Soccer Club has three levels of progressive soccer available; recreational, challenge and classic. They provide a level of competition that helps further develop players dedicated to the sport.
He also passed along some pictures. You’ll need to register on Snapfish to see them, but it’s free. I did it myself in less than 20 seconds.
