Can the mircale continue?

U.S. clips Egypt

By now, you’ve probably read all about the United States’ shocking entry into the semifinals of the 2009 Confederatons Cup with a 3-0 thrashing of Egypt on Sunday.

How surprising was this? If you had bet on the U.S. tripping Egypt, 3-0, and Brazil beating Italy by the same scoreline, you could have gotten 9,000-to-1 odds.

Where’s a time machine when you need one?

Anyway, the magic carpet ride will roll on for two more matches in South Africa, starting with a semifinal tilt with the No. team in the world and reigning European champions Spain on Wednesday.

The action will get under way at about 2:30, and you can check out a live blog of the match right here.

That’s right. That’s how much I love you people.

Considering that we were on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline in Spain last summer, I’m not convinced we can run with them.

But, I wouldn’t have given us much chance to get out of the group stage at the Confederations Cup, either…
