And then there were two

Most of the dust has settled on the area high school girls’ soccer season, and there are two teams still vying for playoff glory.

Gray’s Creek will play at Bartlett Yancey tonight in a second-round 3A clash.

And when I say at Bartlett Yancey, we’re talking about a 148-mile, ONE-WAY trip.

The Buccaneers tripped up Harnett Central, 2-0, in the first round – a team that clipped the Lady Bears twice in Cape Fear Valley play this season.

Meanwhile, in the 4A ranks, round three arrives Tuesday night as New Hanover, fresh off a 4-0 win at Terry Sanford on Friday, will visit Southern Pines to take on Pinecrest.

That could be an entertaining match, and if I weren’t covering a playoff softball game that evening, I’d be trying to get sent there…
