Touchdown, Camels

Campbell does have a football team these days, but it was the soccer team that put up a touchdown’s worth of goals in a 7-1 pasting of Belmont in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament semifinal Thursday night.

Read Stan Cole’s game recap here.

Here are my impressions:

  • Campbell is a good looking team. The Fighting Camels are solid at the back, have a good holding midfielder and solid attacking options
  • Richard Jata had the coolest goal celebration I’ve seen in a while, rolling around like he was on fire after a brilliant strike on a free kick
  • The Camels set a record with their 12th straight win. If they play this way on Saturday against Jacksonville, that number’s heading to 13
  • Despite a mist that had my friend Greg Phillips feeling as if he were back in England, the crowd was pretty good. It was also cool to hear “ole” chants in the first half
  • I’m taking full credit for being a good luck charm, as Thursday’s match was my first in Buies Creek
  • The all-white strip was a good look. They played a little like Real Madrid

And finally, an interview with the coach:
