Yes, there is activity up there…
Here are a few things I’m wondering about:
1. Why didn’t Bob Bradley take Jozy Altidore on today’s trip to Santander for the U.S. team’s soccer friendly with Spain? He’s 18, he really needs to get comfortable playing in Europe and he’s better than Eddie Johnson, who we’ll be trotting out today at forward. I’m trying to like Bradley, but I’m not getting the logic of consistently sending subpar teams (Toulan, Copa America, etc.) to potential statement matches.
2. What do you have to do to keep a coaching job in the NBA? Flip Saunders was canned yesterday as coach of the Detroit Pistons. What did he do wrong? He reached the Eastern Conference finals in each of his three seasons and averaged 59 wins per campaign. His team won a ring with Larry Brown and then went soft. Period.
Mark it down. The Pistons will be lucky to make the playoffs next season, let alone sniff the finals.
3. Is it possible to be sick of a series that hasn’t started yet? ESPN is going CRAZY promoting the Celtics and Lakers. Look, it could be a fun series. But really, 1987 was a long time ago. Calm down.
